Ladies and Gentlemen, today is Dave’s birthday. YES, 22 years ago today the world became a better place.
When I first met Dave, to his friends amusement, I thought he was a bro. I think it was the Phillies hat and seemingly typical frat boy attire that made me think that. As I got to know him, I realized that he is pretty much a gangster. He grew up in Cheltenham which is the hood in comparison to Yardley which is just farmland. All of his friends are black, awesome and so streets. The bro-esq attire is clearly just Dave doing his thang.
Anyway, because it is Dave’s birthday, I will share some of my favorite Dave moments.
1) Awkward Freshman parties – I have dragged Dave to quite a few horribly freshman like parties. The weekend before Halloween, Aga and I took him to one (Aga and I are still children aka only 20, so we drink PBR whenever possible). Before the party we played this ridiculous drinking game where we taped a circle on the TV and watched food network. Every time someones head was in the circle, we had to drink. Ridiculous, but so fun. So. the party was at Mervin’s and we expected it to be decent. When we got there, it was just a TON of slutty freshmen. Aga geeked out with his nerdy engineering friends while Dave and I stood awkwardly in the corner discussing how much he hated that he was 21 and still waiting in line for the Keg. Just saying, he was kind of right.
2) Laundry night – We went to my old roomie Caitlin’s dorm to do free laundry, which seemed as though it was going to be boring. Then Caitlin made us mac and cheese while drinking Malibu and we sat on the floor in a circle to eat it, you know, Japanese style. Then we played Rock Band with her roommates. So random, kind of fun.
3) Phillies [ph]ever – I used to be into baseball, but lost interest in it over the years. This season the Phillies were awesome (Remember? They won the World Series). Dave is a HUGE fan and forced me to watch playoff games, which caused me to get kind of excited about the sport. I went to one of my first games in years with Tim and Dave and it was actually kind of fun. Now I am a fan for life…well, sort of.
4) Cookies! – Dave is one of my favorite people because he will go grocery shopping with me at Trader Joes which is a less appealing health food type store and I hate grocery shopping alone. They sell the best vanilla cookies there which I got him addicted too. Sometimes he uses the cookies to bribe me to watch ridculous TV shows with him, it works…
5) Crazy Adventures [except not actually] - This one time (over the summer) Dave and I planned a whole road trip to Boston, Dartmouth and PSU. It was great until Dave didn’t figure out a job for co-op and had to schedule interviews for those days instead. Hm, I’m going to go ahead and say that this was my least favorite Dave moment.
If I were not a poor college student I would get Dave….
I hope this post was epic enough. I mean, obviously it is not as epic as Jack Baur from 24 or Coldplay, but I’m hoping to be in the top 10.
Happy Birthday Dave!!

Dave! I’m glad you enjoyed it! Although ‘boys don’t cry.’ Just saying.
Jessica, YES! I’m glad someone picked up on it!
Steve aka Billy Foundly how do you chose your persona when you comment? Does it depend on the day?
December 3, 2008 at 12:51 pm
no it really depends on whether im signed into wordpress or not, most days im not, however somedays i am, its not a conscious choice just one born of not being thorough/laziness…. and now you know

Wait, wait.
You WILLINGLY drink PBR? Don’t get me wrong, I’ve had tons of it during my day, but it’s usually my last choice before, say, gasoline.
Then again, I’ll take Jack and Coke over just about any beer.

dear frank,
apparently you have no delved to the depths of nattie light, milwaukees best, or steel reserve, those, are the last choices before gasoline and consequently all i drank my freshman year of college (shudder)
